Office Manager: Your insurance card states that you have a $1000 deductible. Can you pay that today so you can begin care?
Patient: Oh no I forgot about that. I better go home and speak to my spouse to see if we can afford that. (I probably will not come back and will not answer the phone when you call).
Office Manager: I understand--let's fix that issue right now. We can offer you financing and there is no formal credit check to qualify. With that plan you can spread your deductible out over the course of the next year.
Patient: Oh, in that case sign me up. Can I start care right now?
Office Manager: The XYZ program is not covered by your insurance and will be a cash service to you. Can you pay the ($4000) fee today so you can get started with your care?
Patient: No way! I don't have that kind of money and my credit card is maxed out.
Office Manager: We also offer patient financing. Do you think your credit is above 580?
Patient: Yes, for sure?
Office Manager: Yes, you are qualified.
Patient: OK. I can start care today if that is the case.
Whether a patient is paying out-of-pocket for a cash service or has to meet their insurance deductible money is always an issue to initiate a care plan. Having patient financing allows more patients to start care each month. This results in greater practice revenue.
